So I just read through my journal that I started writing in
2008/2009. The one thing that I did find enjoyable was my desire to
become something greater and a better person. I have been able to
determine the things that have and were causing me trouble in life.
This
life isn’t about figuring out who you are. I know exactly WHO I am.
What I stand for. What things matter to me. If there’s someone out there
that knows more about me, than I do. Well, then I must be famous or
something, but I don’t think that will ever happen.
This whole life documentation thing is quite interesting. We want to
be remembered for the things we saw, did, and experienced. Its human
nature. I want to let others know that I was here. Existed. My life had
meaning. My life mattered.
I love photographs. Not images. I
think there’s a big difference between the two. An image is something
that doesn’t have much significance. We see it for a mere second and
move on. Like what you do when you scroll on Tumblr… we are inundated
with images. Messages. Advertisements.
But real photographs. Tangible, printed out, visual memories can have
so much meaning. We can see a slideshow projected. But do we really
remember much from any of the pixels being presented before us?
Our
consumption of visual media is unfathomable. With the rise of digital
photography and having a camera in our pockets at all times. Its simply
inevitable that the number of digital images continues to increase
exponentially. But are we any better because of this?
I challenge
you to go out and buy a disposable camera. Keep that in your pocket or
purse with you for a week or two. And take some pictures. Then wait a
few weeks to get it developed. You just may like the results and the
experience that is associated with your little time capsule.
I think its time for me to get my film camera out and take some myself!
